Date Night Recipe: Lasagne alla Besciamella

Nothing beats cooking for date night. Here is an authentic Italian recipe for lasagna for you and your love to have fun with! I actually learned this recipe while living over in Italy for a couple years and struggle to eat lasagna any other way–this recipe is amazing. You’ll notice that there aren’t any measurements, which is exactly how Italians will teach you a recipe. So, experiment! Make it yours and have fun in the kitchen with the love of your life. Be sure to turn on some music and spend your night together completely, head over heels, in “amore” <3

Here is what you’ll need…

Carrots

Celery

Onion

Olive Oil

Ground Beef

Garlic

Red Wine

Salt

Pepper

Lentils

Mozzarella

Besciamella (put this all in a separate saucepan and boil it all together)

3 cups whole milk

1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Salt and pepper

Lasagna noodles

Tomato Sauce

Cut up the carrots, celery, and onion and cook in olive oil. Add some salt and pepper.

Dice the garlic into as many pieces as possible and mix in with ground beef.

Once the carrots, celery, and onion are done, add the ground beef into mix. Add some more salt and pepper.

Next, add a bunch of red wine into the mix until it cooks out.

Once the wine has cooked out, add your tomato sauce, lentils, and some more salt and pepper to the ragu (the sauce), cover and cook at a low heat for as long as you want. (Some Italians leave it overnight, others a couple hours, you can just do it until it’s really hot).

While the red sauce is cooking start making the Besciamella.

Now that all of your sauces are made, get out the pan you will be making the lasagna in and start the layering process.

Begin by putting a little of your ragu at the bottom of the pan, then place a layer of lasagna noodles on top of that. Pour on some ragu on top of the noodles, add some besciamella, then cover with another layer of noodles. Repeat this process until the top layer.

Now cover that top layer with mozzarella cheese and place in the oven at 375°F for 45 minutes.

Enjoy!

Remember, the recipe isn’t specific for a reason! Have fun and experiment making Italian Lasagna the way they do. Focus less on the specific details and more about the quality time you’re spending with your sweetheart and enjoy la vostra bella serata assieme!
